What is Asbestos?

What is Asbestos Testing?
Asbestos testing is the process of identifying the presence and type of asbestos in a property. This is a crucial first step before any demolition, refurbishment, or construction work, as it ensures that asbestos-containing materials are managed safely and legally. Testing helps to determine whether materials can be left in place safely or need professional removal.

How Asbestos Testing is Done

Initial Survey and Assessment: Our trained asbestos contractor visits the property to visually inspect areas where asbestos may be present. This includes roofs, walls, ceilings, floors, pipe insulation, and any other suspect materials.

Sampling: Small, carefully controlled samples of the suspected material are collected. This is done using strict safety protocols to prevent fibre release, including personal protective equipment (PPE) and containment measures.

Laboratory Analysis: Samples are sent to a UKAS-accredited laboratory, where they are examined under a microscope to confirm the presence of asbestos and identify the type (such as chrysotile, amosite, or crocidolite).

Reporting: A detailed report is provided outlining which materials contain asbestos, the type of asbestos, and recommendations for management or removal. This report is essential for compliance with UK health and safety regulations and guides the next steps for safe handling.
